When it comes to avant garde high fashion, Canadian brand, Metal Noir have totally got it locked down and emerging to become one of the Fashion industry’s most exciting brands.
Debuting their first collection next month, Meade Magazine sat down with Metal Noir creative director Masai Payan, to talk about their Fall 15 collection, inspiration and celebrity influences.
What inspired you to work in fashion?
I always used to draw Anime as a child and in high school I joined the costume department for my theatre class. One thing led to another and I eventually became obsessed with fashion.
You have just launched your fall 2015 collection.. What was the inspiration behind it?
It was all about architecture within the original Metal Noir Jewellery. An architecture direction was needed to tell the story of what the brand was and what it will continue to be, it was about creating a foundation.
What do you do over the course of an average day?
I make decisions on sketches, patterns, drapes, or final decisions on a specific look or mood we might be creating, no day is really the same.
How long does it take to make one gown?
From start to finish, it typically takes about 1 week to make a gown from sketch to final sample garment. We always keep in mind that things might change due to the fact that we are creating a collection. Cohesiveness is a must for us, we are story tellers first.
Who is the Metal Noir woman? Do you have a muse?
She is a classic fashion forward professional. Women that inspire Metal Noir have an edge with a mix of sophistication.
Which is your preferred season, Spring or Fall?
I love spring. There is an easiness to spring that brings out the best in everyone.
Which celebrities would you love to dress?
Taylor Swift, Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron.
If you could give women one piece of fashion advice, what would it be?
Step outside of your comfort zone and experiment with fashion.
What is on the horizon for Metal Noir?
The Sky is the limit; we are open to anything that the industry has to offer. We just want to enter the Industry in a respectful way.
