In a emotion invoking video, internationally acclaimed supermodel Andreja Pejic explains about her life. From a war torn Bosnia, to a refugee camp in Serbia, through Australia to some of the biggest runways in the world.
But life has not been easy for the Australian supermodel. Her earliest memory was twirling around in her mother’s skirts trying to be a ballerina, which along with many girls is a memory quite a few of us had as small children.
What sets her apart is that her biggest dream was to be a girl, for Andreja was born a boy and her whole life has been a struggle for acceptance from friends and family of the way she felt and the way she wanted to live her life. It’s been a long journey, the 23 year old pioneer has been called many things over the years, from being named in FHM’s 2011 list of sexiest women in the world to being hailed as the world’s most famous androgynous model. When your success comes from being so versatile and being able to model both men’s and women’s wear; how did Andreja feel that finally becoming herself might affect her career? Since she did once herself claim that she was a good deal for people since she was a 2 for 1 deal?
Andreja: The Documentary will take us on a journey of discovery right along with the model as she travels back to her home country of Bosnia. Andreja explains that in finding herself she also discovered much about the world. Tolerance and respect are terms she uses and claims that it is something that the world doesn’t have enough of when it comes to transgender people. In 1984 Simone De Beauvoir proclaimed ‘One is not born a woman, but becomes one.’ And this couldn’t be truer when talking of Ms. Pejic. She is the embodiment of a Cinderella story and Andreja is finally living her dream. This past weekend she travelled back to her home city of Melbourne to walk in a show which she first participated in when she was first discovered.
This time she will walk with her head held high as her true self and The Grand Showcase feat. Josh Goot audience won’t know what’s hit them. Andreja Pejic is a woman to behold, strong, inspiration and a force for good. Not just in the fashion world but across all walks of life. Armed with her own personal camera she will take footage for her Kickstarter documentary, showing her fans and audience an inside look at what it is to be Andreja. It’s a project dear to her heart and she has hopes that telling her story will help those who are suffering the same intolerance can draw strength from her own, realise they are not alone in the way they feel about themselves and know that someone out there right now is going through the same thing. No part of her journey is excluded, it’s so far a complete insight into every corner of her life, both professional and personal and I very much look forward to seeing the final product.
