Being fashionable was something I was always trying to avoid, but oh the irony, whatever has caught my eye ended up in the fashion magazines and fashion websites ‘must haves’. I guess you could call me a psychic, especially with fashion weeks being only 6 months ahead of each other, it’s not too hard to tell what everyone will wear during this or the other season.
I could always tell which item of clothing could be popular or not, and being a fashion blogger of course I would wear it! No, surprise while the models hit the catwalk during the biggest fashion weeks, wearing the newest trends I was on my toes, stuck to my laptop thinking what could be the ‘it’ clothing this upcoming season be? But fashion week wasn’t the place, flares attracted my attention. Long before that I’ve seen flares being styled in the most chic and unique way, by our Fashion and Society Editor, Lewis- Duncan Weedon showed off flares many times in an iconic way! However it has took me several months to find a courage to buy my first pair of flares, just before Men’s Collections: London. I entered Mango, closed my eyes and picked out the pair of flares that were on display, knowing my luck the pair was white. The colour I’ve swore years earlier I’d never wear in pants! For several reasons one of them being, that I’ve always felt slightly uncomfortable wearing white pants, but what can you do? The size, the cut and even the length of those pants were ideal for me. It was meant to be! So I’ve bought my first pair of flares and in white! The amount of complements and flattering looks I got while wearing them, it took all of my worries away! Since then I have bought 3 different pairs of flares and had 2 more in my mind to find and buy, the truth is, flares stole my heart! These pants are perfect for all of you ladies out there who are use to having a tomboy style, including me at one point, guilty! And I want to keep it to look feminine. I know what you skirt lovers and dress obsessed really think “Trousers can look feminine?” Well, not any random pair of trousers but flares definitely fit the criteria. Being so elegant, comfortable and so ever timeless, think about Grace Kelly. She could pull off flares perfectly!
This seasons various designers from Hermes to Versace have adopted flares and made it their own, by using different cuts, fabric and patterns. This seasons selection of flares are massive on the high end market, and I must say I was surprised at how many different pairs I’ve found while selecting the pictures for this article! But as always high street being inspired by designer brands there’s always a cheaper alternative too. If designer labels don’t fit your budget, high street is perfect place to shop. My two personal favourites for flares are Mango and Zara, their selection of design is very impressive, from different colours, fabric used and prints, there’s always something to find. And don’t even get me started on how they falter your body! I think flares are the only style of pants that can work for any body type as they slim and elongate the legs, and you don’t even need to wear heels to look taller! Ideal for any formal or informal occasion, flares should be worn not only during the fall season but also throughout the year! Who knows buying your first pair of flares might change how you look on fashion, as for me discovering flares opened a whole different world of style for me.
