Marco Marco’s SS16 debut collection for New York Fashion Week, dubbed “F*kn Sirius”, the showcase was a drag queen extravanganaza, featuring several RuPaul’s Drag Race queens sissying the runway, including Milk, Detox, Courtney Act and Miss Fame. Also working the catwalk were Isis King, Will Wilke, Ryan Burke and Milk’s bae, James Whiteside (a.
k.a. Jbdubs). The designer who is known for making risque underwear for men and dresses for drag queens put on the spectacles of all spectacles, making this one of the most talked about shows for NYFW yet. His previous works have been met with major criticism but also rave reviews, depends on who’s dishing out the comments from the library. But as far as I’m concerned there will be no shade from me about this runway, I was living for every moment, and let me tell you why…
Fashion has always been the forward-thinking industry and platform for many people, it has broken down barriers, stripped away stereotypes and welcomed new forms of artistry like no other. This runway show is just the proof, especially when male models wearing eyeliner and contouring stomping the runway are cheered and celebrated – not to mention Vouging like it’s the 80’s, which I major love for.
My thoughts on the clothing? Well their design aesthetic is very sport luxe, within the collection there is lots of neon added with chiffon to give that flow within a dress, corsets, sequins, feathers and killer heels. Just like in every collections there’s always the one dress that you fall in love with and there’s always one piece you think “really queen?
”, but first and foremost on overall good collection and of course atmosphere. What about the underwear, I hear you say! Well what else is there to say other than, whoever wears it must be so comfortable in their bodies, they deserve to wear it. Some look very supportive and comfortable to wear, and somewhere well there’s not much material there – but I think that’s the point.See the full show here:
