Atelier D’Exception combines traditional craftsmanship with luxury materials to create exceptional, timeless pieces. Inspiration comes from architecture, artful craftsmanship as well as experiences gained whilst travelling. Each Atelier D’Exception bag begins with the idea of “playing” with architectural shapes.
During the crafting process designer Marlis then manipulates the finer details; “Design is for me a process which changes from the drawing until the final bag”.Marlis’s background is in furniture and interior design which she enriched by attending a specialised school focusing on leather bags in Italy. Atelier D’Exception aims to create unique, long lasting pieces which are not a trend, seasonal piece or mass-produced. The woman wearing it should be looking for something different, an exclusive piece made with quality materials and techniques.
The bags are made from exquisite materials combined with precious metals and stones in limited editions. There are currently 5 styles, each named after towns full of architectural hot spots. These styles are available in a variety of leathers (python, calf hair, salmon and a “shimmering” calf leather in classic colourings), with high quality components and semi-precious jewels (14k gold plated or ruthenium plated settings) with either garnet or moonstones.
Goat suede leather is used for the linings of each of the bags with all other leathers being purchased from well-known Italian companies except the salmon leather which is sourced from Iceland.
All bags close with a magnet, chains are detachable and lengths can be personalised. Most importantly, all bags and the jewels are individually handcrafted with traditional methods in Vienna and London.Atelier D’Exception offers a bespoke service, allowing customers to choose their preferred style, skins, colours and jewels in order to create a unique one off piece especially for themselves.
