We are lucky to have the opportunity to attend some very special events to launch new products, services, places or groups. However, we had not been invited to an evening on such a scale as the London Musical Theatre Orchestra launch in quite a while.
The London Musical Theatre Orchestra is a professional orchestra that aims to develop and promote the art of musical theatre for the public benefit. Their mission is to provide the public with the very highest quality musical theatre concerts.
The orchestra is unique in several respects: it is the only professional orchestra in the world that is dedicated solely to musical theatre: it provides unmatched opportunities for developing musicians to experience playing musical theatre repertoire, and it is made up solely of musicians who are passionate about musical theatre.
LMTO have been working for a good while performing without an audience giving a gathering of around 60 musicians and 60 singers the chance to rehearse and perform a full-length musical, and arrangers a chance to flex their muscle to make this possible.
However, the launch night was a shift in this approach, giving us a taste of what the LMTO intend to bring to an audience – the chance to hear this greatly talented team bring their love for Musical Theater scores to an audience for the first time. And what a treat it was! A huge orchestra combining to make an awesome sound playing some of our personal favourites from musicals.
Their first shows as a specialist professional musical Orchestra are underway – with Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s ‘State Fair’ being performed this week at Cadogen Hall (Sunday 6th November), and Alan Menken & Lynn Ahrens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ following swiftly on Monday 19th December – the perfect treat for Christmas. Tickets are on sale now at www.lmto.org … You can also find out more about the play throughs and get in touch with them directly for more information.

We are thrilled to see such a great initiative working with talented individuals to continue developing their skills and promote the passion in musical theatre. Well done LMTO, and best of luck for your performances!
